Project Description
Le Petit Laurier – A Vision of Sustainable and Community-Centered Living
Le Petit Laurier is a human-scale residential project located at the corner of Papineau and Saint-Grégoire in Plateau Mont-Royal. Designed around a central courtyard, it prioritizes cross-ventilation and a continuous outdoor walkway that fosters interaction among residents. The absence of a basement allowed for the development of a green core, envisioned as both an evolving privacy filter and a gathering space that will grow over time. Through a carefully curated series of images, the goal was to capture the interaction between architecture and its environment, highlighting volumes, materials, and the relationship between communal and private spaces. The site’s natural slope creates a transition between a three-story façade on the street side and a four-story elevation along the laneway, defining the building’s visual identity. The integration of sloped planes and open circulation enhances the accessibility of the project, notably through dedicated units for residents with reduced mobility. The central green space, framed by a linear bench, serves as both a focal point and a unifying element, reinforcing the project’s communal nature. Each image was composed to translate the essence of the project and highlight its architectural qualities. Awarded a Silver certification in real estate development at the Grands Prix du Design and a Platinum certification for multifamily housing of four stories or less, Le Petit Laurier stands as a reference in sustainable and socially driven design. It was also featured in the 2023 annual publication of the Association des Architectes en Pratique Privée, under the theme of socio-ecological transition in architecture.
